Tips on measuring

  • Wear Shirt or light clothing (no sweaters, sweatpants and jeans), stand straight and relax.
  • Hold the tape firm, but not tight so you do not feel restricted.
  • The measurements should be taken to the nearest half (0.5) centimeter or quarter (0.25) inch.
  • Measure twice! If you don’t get the same measurement both times, try again.
  • A friend or tailor to assist you (recommended).

1. Neck (shirt collar)
Measure around the neck where your shirt collar would be if buttoned.
Add 1 or 2cm to the actual measurement for shirt collar if more space is needed.
 
 
2. Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest.
Stand straight, relax with normal breathing.
Keep the tape in horizontal at front and back.
 
 
3. Stomach
Measure around the thinnest part of the waist, or run the tape 5cm above your navel.
Keep the tape in horizontal at front and back,
 
 
4. Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips;
Keep the tape is horizontal at front and back.
 
 
5. Shoulder
Identify the bones on the top edge of the shoulders. Measure across the top of the shoulder between the bones.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
6. Bicep
Measure around the fullest part of the upper arm with the arms relaxed by the side.
 
 
7. Wrist
Measure around the wrist bone.
 
 
8. Sleeve length
Measure from the bone on the top shoulder edge alongside the arm to the center of your back palm.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
9. Sleeve(Left, Shirt)
Measure from the bone on the top shoulder edge alongside the arm to the center of your back palm.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
10. Sleeve(Right, Shirt)
Measure from the bone on the top shoulder edge alongside the arm to the center of your back palm.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
11. Back length(Jacket)
Measure from the nape straight down to where you’d want the garment to end.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you well)
 
 
12. Back length(Shirt)
Measure from the nape straight down to where you’d want the garment to end. (If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you well)
 
 
13. Front waistline
Measure from the base of the neck straight down across bust position to the waistline position (The waistline should run across the point 5cm above the navel).
 
 
14. Front chest
Measure front chest from one anterior armpit point to another.
 
 
15. Back width
Measure back width from one posterior armpit point to another.
 
 
16. Bust point to bust point
Measure from bust point to bust point.
 
 
17. Bust position
Measure from the base of the neck straight down to the bust point.
 
 
18. Pants waist
Measure around the waist where you’d normally wear your pants. Wrap the tape measure as tight as you’d want your trouser to be.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
19. Thigh
Measure around your thigh at its widest point (underneath the crotch).
Keep the tap horizontal.
 
 
20. Crotch
Measure from the front top of the waistband to the back top of the waistband.
Make sure not to pull the tape so tight to feel restricted.
 
 
21. Pants outseam
Measure alongside the pants from top of the waistband to where you’d want the pants to end.
 
 
22. Back length(Vest)
Measure from the nape straight down through the back center of the waist line to the position 12cm below the waist line as shown, or to where you’d want the vest front to end;
 
 
23. Skirt waist
Measure around the waist where you’d wear your skirt. Wrap the tape measure as tight as you’d want your skirt to be.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
24. Skirt length
Measure from the pants waist straight down to knee, or to where you’d want your skirt to end.
 
 
25. Back length(Overcoat)
Measure from the nape straight down to where you’d want the garment to end.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you well)
 
 
26. Sleeve(Left, Overcoat)
Measure from the bone on the top shoulder edge alongside the arm to the center of your back palm.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
 
 
27. Sleeve(Right, Overcoat)
Measure from the bone on the top shoulder edge alongside the arm to the center of your back palm.
(If unsure, take the measurement from a garment that fits you)
